Reset your mind and change feelings like frustration and anger into a positive mindset
Look Up. Take Notice:
"What a diff'rence a day made
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain..."
As I reflect back on how different today (Tuesday) is compared to the grey, damp Monday morning commute I had yesterday; these words, taken from a song first written by Maria Grever in the 1930's have been stuck in my head since waking this morning.
I day dream a little and as I do so, I am transported to a warm friendly place where I am singing the lyrics as beautifully as Sinatra to a small audience in a 1950's smokey bar room setting... I smile... I smile the sort of smile that suggests a private joke and as I do so, I can see that I am slightly worrying a man with onion breath and a lady with bright red lips and knitted hat - both of whom are invading my space as we share a commute together packed like sardines.
I FORGIVE YOU!
Today, I forgive the metropolitan line for the delays and failures somewhere between Harrow and Uxbridge, because today is so beautiful!
I was considering walking, but instead spent five minutes or so de-Icing the car...
As I did so, I was thinking about all those people out there who'd be leaving their home and cursing the inconvenience of frost and ice this morning. Those who have failed to look up and bless the blue sky and are getting irritated by having to scrape off the ice; those getting angrier because they are running late and who, by the time they get to the station, are pissed off after hearing the announcement 'due to extreme weather conditions' there are delays on the Metropolitan line.
Her 'resting bitch face' and 'Paddington stare' unsettled me...
Grumpy and angry people have infested my carriage, sharing my space as I hurtle southbound. They're all looking pissed and angry - poor old me, wedged between onion breath man and lady with bright red lips, someone with a 'resting bitch face' and 'Paddington bear stare'; is starting to unsettle me. Why is being cheerful, so goddam upsetting?
Reset your mind and change feelings like frustration and anger into a positive mindset
The purpose of this post is to draw your attention to how you can use your time to reset your mind and change feelings like frustration and anger into a positive mindset.
Like many commuters, I was faced with a frustrating delay that made me miss my usual train because my car was frozen solid. In this moment, I turned the engine to warm the car and stood on my drive to look up and take notice.
Taking deep breaths of fresh crisp air, I noticed the ice blue sky and how the sunlight was warming up the white frosty colour tones with a splash of orange. I noticed how different the ice settles on my car bodywork, windscreen, grass and leaves.
If you didn't notice the beauty on your doorstep this morning, I am delighted to share my observations and a few photos taken this morning!
Wishing you a positive day.
And remember to smile - even to strangers!
With love.
