MyRecovery from Burnout to Grand Mastery
We’ve all been there: firing on all cylinders, fuelled by ambition, deadlines, and the relentless pursuit of success. Then, one day, the engine falters. The once-focused trajectory veers off course, and suddenly, it feels as if your rocket—the metaphorical drive that kept you hurtling toward the markers of capability and security—has passed through the Earth’s atmosphere and is now floating aimlessly in the vast expanse of outer space.
This is exactly how I felt at the lowest point in my life.
Susie Adler, a writer at Critical Thinking on Substack, described it perfectly:
“The rocket that had long been driving me toward conventional markers of capability and security had passed through the Earth’s atmosphere and was now floating aimlessly in outer space.”
If you’ve ever felt untethered, disconnected, or simply “burnt out,” you’ll know what she means. It’s as if all that propulsion and purpose carried you so far that now you’re left weightless, adrift, and questioning if you’ll ever find solid ground again.
But here’s the truth: just because your rocket is floating doesn’t mean it’s broken. It simply needs recalibrating. And that’s where yoga therapy and breathwork come in.
I remember reading that quote and feeling every word of it in my bones. I had hit a catastrophic burnout—physically, emotionally, and mentally spent.
My life, my health, and my sense of direction were all in freefall. It was as though I had been launched into space, only to realize I’d lost connection to mission control.
What saved me was MyRecovery—not just the name of my business today but the life-changing journey I undertook to rebuild, relaunch, and soar higher than I ever imagined.
A Crash Course in Burnout
Burnout isn’t just about exhaustion; it’s about losing the connection to your inner compass. The relentless stressors of modern life—demanding jobs, family responsibilities, societal pressures—can leave us operating in survival mode, with our nervous system locked in overdrive. It’s no wonder our rockets end up stranded in orbit.
Burnout is a total disconnection from yourself, your purpose, and the life you’re meant to live. For me, it culminated in catastrophic health issues, all compounded by the relentless stress I had carried for years. My body was shutting down, and my mind wasn’t far behind.
But here’s the good news: just as every rocket has a navigation system, so does your body. Through yoga therapy and breathwork, we can gently guide your nervous system out of “fight or flight” and into a state of rest, repair, and readiness for your next mission.
As I lay in the wreckage of my “crash,” a spark ignited. I had reached the highest level of my career (the executive leadership board of a large company), but I knew I couldn’t continue down this path. Something had to change, and that’s when I discovered transformational yoga therapy.
The 21-Day Transformation That Changed Everything
Attending a 21-day transformational yoga therapy program wasn’t just the start of my recovery—it was the launchpad for an extraordinary new chapter. Those three weeks didn’t just bring me back down to Earth; they helped me reset entirely.
Yoga therapy isn’t about twisting yourself into impossible shapes; it’s about reconnecting with yourself—mind, body, and spirit. Think of it as Ground Control for your rocket. Through tailored practices like gentle asanas (postures), breathwork, and meditation, yoga therapy helps you rediscover balance and stability.
When we move mindfully, we send a message to our body that it’s safe to land. The tension stored in tight shoulders, clenched jaws, and stiff hips begins to soften. With each stretch, you’re not just loosening muscles—you’re releasing the emotional baggage that’s been weighing you down.
Through yoga therapy and advanced breathwork, I learned how to regulate my nervous system, release years of stored tension, and reconnect with my purpose. The practices grounded me, balanced me, and gave me the strength to move forward.
That program wasn’t just a recovery for me; it was a revelation.
Breathwork: The Rocket’s Reset Button
Breathwork is the unsung hero of recovery. Most of us breathe on autopilot—shallow and quick—barely giving it a second thought. But your breath is the key to regulating your nervous system.
Simple techniques like box breathing or three-part yogic breath can pull you out of survival mode and help you feel grounded. Imagine your breath as the control panel for your rocket. By slowing it down, you’re recalibrating your systems, ensuring everything is functioning smoothly.
In the weightlessness of burnout, breathwork becomes your anchor. It reminds you that no matter how far you’ve drifted, you can always find your way back to yourself—one inhale and exhale at a time.
From Novice to Grand Master
In less than four years, I went from being a novice in yoga therapy to becoming a Grand Master—one of only 47 people in the world trained to this level. This journey wasn’t just about healing myself; it became my mission to help others recover, relaunch, and find new directions in their lives.
Burnout doesn’t have to be the end of your story. It can be the beginning of something extraordinary.
Resetting for Take-Off
The beauty of burnout recovery is that it doesn’t just bring you back to Earth; it prepares you for your next launch. When your nervous system is reset, your energy levels restored, and your mind re-centred, you don’t just bounce back—you bounce higher.
This isn’t about returning to the old trajectory that got you here in the first place. It’s about charting a new course, one that honours your well-being and keeps you aligned with your purpose.
